GETTING BACK ON TRACK SPIRITUALLY – Proverbs 3:6

Proverbs 3 vs 6

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:6

Sometimes followers of Jesus need help to get back on track spiritually.

We may intentionally veer off course because we think we know best, or drift away slowly, failing to notice we are moving further and further from the walk God wants with us.

God has not left us on our own, however He has given all believers the Holy Spirit as Jesus told His disciples: “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17) And who convicts us of our sin: “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: – However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” (John 16:8, 13).

When we are going off course, the Holy Spirit sounds the alarm and triggers our conscience (Galatian 5:16-25). We may ignore the warning, but we do so to our own detriment: “But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; so He turned Himself against them as an enemy, and He fought against them.” (Isaiah 63:10 and Galatians 6:8).

What comfort it is to know that God is at work in our lives though the convicting work of the Holy Spirit! “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26-27)

We need to remember that we are never without a Helper, because we have the Spirit within; and with God’s help and guidance, we can continue on a path that is pleasing to Him.
